House of Hazards unblocked is a two-player game about completing ordinary household chores in a house that has been comprehensively booby-trapped. One player works through a task list. The other player controls the traps. Then you swap and do it again. It runs free in your browser with no download, no install and no account.

The gameplay of House of Hazards

Each round assigns one player a set of everyday tasks around the house. The other player takes control of the environment and spends the round trying to stop them slamming doors, dropping objects, and turning ordinary furniture into obstacles.

The task-doer wins by finishing everything before the timer runs out. The saboteur wins by preventing that. Because both roles are played from the same keyboard, the game works on a single computer with two people sitting at it, which is most of its appeal.

Rounds are short, usually a minute or two, and you swap roles between them so both players get to run and to sabotage.

Tasks are drawn from everyday household routines. The ones you’ll encounter most often include:

• Brushing your teeth at the bathroom sink
• Making toast in the kitchen
• Watering the plants
• Collecting the mail from the mailbox
• Taking out the rubbish
• Using the treadmill

All punishing choices in the game

The design punishes two specific habits, and knowing them is most of the skill.

Rushing the route. The tasks are scattered across the house deliberately, and doing them in the order they’re listed means crossing the same rooms repeatedly. Every extra crossing is another window for your opponent to hit you. Read the whole list first, then plan a loop.

Firing traps too early. As the saboteur, triggering a trap the moment your opponent appears wastes it they’re still moving and can walk out of it. Traps land when the runner is committed to a task and can’t reposition. Holding a trap for three seconds is usually worth more than using it immediately.

Standing still to think. There is no safe spot. Pausing to work out your next move is when most players get caught.

Player 1

• Arrow keys: Move and jump

• S: Interact and trigger traps

Single player uses the arrow keys against the computer. Both players share one keyboard, so no controller or second device is needed.

The house is divided into areas, and each one has its own set of hazards.

In the house

Indoor hazards are built into ordinary furniture. Doors swing shut at head height, ceiling fixtures come loose, and household appliances can be triggered while someone is standing next to them. The bathroom and kitchen are the most trapped rooms, because that’s where most of the tasks are.

In the garden

The outdoor area is more open, which cuts both ways fewer places to be cornered, but also fewer things to hide behind. Sprinklers, garden tools and the mailbox area are the usual trouble spots, and the run out to collect the mail is one of the most exposed stretches in the game.

In the garage

The garage holds the heaviest hazards. Objects stored on shelves and equipment left out become projectiles, and the confined space means there’s less room to dodge than anywhere else in the house.

Two playable game modes

Two player mode is the game as intended. Both players use the same keyboard, alternating between the task role and the trap role each round.

Single player mode puts you against the computer. It’s a reasonable way to learn the house layout and the task locations, but the trap timing is more predictable than a human opponent’s, so it doesn’t fully replace playing with someone.

All characters

The game offers a selection of playable characters. They differ in appearance rather than ability, so the choice is cosmetic pick whichever you like and it won’t affect how a round plays out.
