The gameplay of Unicycle Hero

A unicycle has no second wheel to catch you, so balance isn’t something you set it’s something you’re constantly correcting. Leaning forward speeds you up and tips you over the front. Leaning back slows you and drops you on your back.

Distance is the base score, and tricks multiply it. Every ramp is a decision about whether to take the safe landing or attempt a rotation that could double your run or end it.

Runs are short at first. The improvement curve is steep, though the balance clicks after a few minutes and distances that seemed impossible become routine.

How the scoring works

Distance accumulates as you travel, and completed flips and tricks add multipliers on top. A crash ends the run and locks in whatever you’d banked, so there’s a constant question of whether to attempt one more trick or ride it out.

The thing most players get wrong is treating tricks as optional. Distance alone caps out fairly low, so a run without flips will always score worse than a shorter one with them.

All punishing choices in the game

Holding a lean. The unicycle is always tipping. Sustained input in either direction sends you past the recovery point small alternating corrections are what keep you up.

Attempting a flip on a small ramp. Rotation needs air time. A short launch means landing mid-flip, which counts as a crash rather than a partial trick.

Panicking after a bad landing. Landing awkwardly is usually recoverable if you make one gentle correction. Overcorrecting is what turns a wobble into a fall.

Riding safe to protect a good run. Distance without tricks scores poorly, so playing it safe with a big distance still ends in a mediocre total.
